How do I add my computer to the Central Services domain in Mac OS 10.9 Mavericks / 10.10 Yosemite / 10.11 El Capitan / 10.12 Sierra?

Answer:

Temporary update on 01/30/2017: If you receive an error message, in the AD Admin User: text box, instead of ABC@vt.edu, type: ABC@w2k.vt.edu but replace ABC with your own Hokies ID.

  1. In AUDC, create the account for the computer using the name of the computer. For instructions, see the Creating Computer Accounts section of Using the Organizational Unit (OU) Administrator Tool and Other OU Admin Information.

  2. From the Apple drop-down list, select System Preferences....

    Select System Preferences.

  3. Click the Users & Groups icon.

    Click the Users and Groups icon.

  4. At the lower-left corner of the window, if the lock appears to be locked :

    1. Click the lock.

      Click the lock icon.

    2. In the Username: or Name: text box, type the name of an administrator account.

    3. In the Password: text box, type the password of the administrator account.

    4. Click the Unlock button.

      Enter your credentials and click the Unlock button.

  5. In the left pane, near the bottom, click Login Options.

    Click Login Options.

  6. To the right of Network Account Server: click the Join... button.

    Click the Join button.

  7. In the Server: text box, type: cntrlsrvs.w2k.vt.edu The Active Directory Settings will appear.

  8. In the Client Computer ID: text box, type the name that you assigned to this computer in AUDC.

  9. In the AD Admin User: text box, type: ABC@vt.edu but replace ABC with your own Hokies ID which is the same as your PID.

    (If you receive an error message, in the AD Admin User: text box, instead of ABC@vt.edu, type: ABC@w2k.vt.edu but replace ABC with your own Hokies ID.)

  10. In the AD Admin Password: text box, type your Hokies ID (Exchange) password. If you have forgotten your password, follow the instructions at Forgot Hokies ID Password.

  11. Click OK.

  12. (If you receive an error message, in the AD Admin User: text box, instead of ABC@vt.edu, type: ABC@w2k.vt.edu but replace ABC with your own Hokies ID.)
