Office 365 Mail App (Exchange Online with a Web Browser) (Recommended)

  1. Go to my.office365.vt.edu

  2. In the Email or phone text box type: ABC@vt.edu where ABC is replaced with your Hokies ID which is the same as your PID.

  3. Example: johndoe@vt.edu

  4. When you click or tab away from the Email or phone text box, you will see the VT Active Directory Federated Services heading. In the Password text box, type your Hokies ID password.

  5. Click the Sign In button.

  6. If you have previously enrolled in 2-factor authentication (2FA), follow the on-screen instructions to complete authentication with your second factor.

  7. Click the Mail icon.

  8. If you receive an error message, try clearing the browser cache by following the instructions at Clearing Browser Cache and then accessing the Office 365 Mail app, again.

Android 2.1

To avoid calendar syncing problems, 4Help recommends performing calendaring functions in the Office 365 Mail App instead of on mobile devices. For more information, refer to the Use Exchange Effectively: Minimum Requirements section of the Exchange Email service catalog item.

If you are experiencing problems with your mobile device making a connection to the Virginia Tech Exchange service, refer to the Use Exchange Effectively: Minimum Requirements section of the Exchange Email service catalog item.

  1. From the Home screen, tap the Menu icon.

  2. Tap Email.

  3. In the Email address text box, type: ABC@exchange.vt.edu but replace ABC with your Hokies ID which is the same as your PID. (Do not use ABC@vt.edu.) (If an extra space character was added at the end by autocorrect, delete the extra space.)

  4. In the Password text box, type your Hokies ID (Exchange) password. If you have forgotten your password, follow the instructions at Forgot Hokies ID Password.

  5. Tap Next.

  6. On the What type of account is this? screen, tap Exchange.

  7. In the Domain\Username text box, type: HOKIES\ABC but replace ABC with your Hokies ID.

  8. In the Password text box, verify that your Hokies ID (Exchange) password is correct. If you have forgotten your password, follow the instructions at Forgot Hokies ID Password.

  9. In the Server text box, type: weboutlook.vt.edu

  10. If it is not already checked, place a check in the Use Secure Connection (SSL) check box.

  11. Tap Next.

  12. Select the synchronization and notification preferences you want.

  13. Tap Next.

  14. In the Give this account a name (optional) text box, type a name for the account.

  15. In the Your Name (displayed on outgoing messages) text box, type your name as you want it to appear on messages you send.

  16. Tap Done. It may take some time for the initial synchronization to take place. During the process, you will see the sync icon in the notification area.

    1. On the Home screen, tap Settings.

  5. In the Username text box, type your Hokies ID which is the same as your PID.

  6. In the Password text box, type your Hokies ID (Exchange) password. If you have forgotten your password, follow the instructions at Forgot Hokies ID Password.

  7. Tap Next.

    Type appropriate server information and tap Next.

  8. For each of the apps that you want to connect to your Exchange account, toggle the toggle button to green.

  9. Tap Save.

We do not guarantee that they will work with your particular device or client. However, most devices do work with these settings.   1. Start Outlook 2011 or 2016 for Mac.

  2. From the Tools drop-down list, select Accounts....

    Select Accounts.

  3. In the lower-left of the window, click the plus sign (+) button.

    Click the plus sign button.

  4. From the drop-down list, select Exchange....

    Select Exchange.

  5. In the E-mail address: text box type: ABC@exchange.vt.edu but replace ABC with your Hokies ID, which is the same as your PID. Do not use ABC@vt.edu

  6. In the User name: text box, type: hokies \ABC but replace ABC with your Hokies ID, which is the same as your PID. Make sure to use a backslash (\) instead of a forward slash (/).

  7. In the Password: text box, type your Hokies ID (Exchange) password. If you have forgotten your password, follow the instructions at Forgot Hokies ID Password.

  8. Place a check in the Configure automatically check box.

  9. Click the Add Account button.

    Enter the appropriate information and click the Add Account button.

  10. If prompted about mail could not be received at this time, click the No button.

    Click the No button.

  11. Click the Advanced... button.

    Click the Advanced... button.

  12. Under Directory service:

    1. In the Server: text box, type: gc.w2k.vt.edu

    2. Place a check in the Use SSL to connect (recommended) check box.

    3. Place a check in the Log in with my Exchange account credentials check box.

    4. Click OK.

      Click OK.

  13. Close the Accounts window.

  1. Start Outlook.

  2. Start adding a new account.

    • If this is the first time you have used Outlook, click the Next button in any introductory windows until the Add Account window appears.

    • If you already have other accounts in Outlook:

      1. Select the File tab.

        Select the File tab.

      2. Click the Add Account button.

        Click the Add Account button.
  3. In the Add Account window, under Auto Account Setup:

    1. Select the E-mail Account radio button.

    2. In the Your Name: text box, type your name as you want it to appear on messages you send.

    3. In the E-mail Address: text box, type: ABC@exchange.vt.edu, but replace ABC with your Hokies ID which is the same as your PID. Do not use ABC@vt.edu

    4. In the Password: text box, if available, type your Hokies ID (Exchange) password. If you have forgotten your password, follow the instructions at Forgot Hokies ID Password.

    5. In the Retype Password: text box, if available, type your Hokies ID (Exchange) password. If you have forgotten your password, follow the instructions at Forgot Hokies ID Password.

    6. Click the Next button.

      Enter the appropriate information and then click the Next button.

  4. If prompted for credentials by a Windows Security window:

    1. Select Use another account.

      Select Use another account.

    2. In the User name text box, type: hokies\ABC but replace ABC with your own Hokies ID.

    3. In the Password text box, type your Hokies ID (Exchange) password. If you have forgotten your password, follow the instructions at Forgot Hokies ID Password.

    4. Click OK.

      Enter your credentials and click OK.

  5. If prompted for credentials by a second Windows Security window:

    1. Select Use another account.

      Select Use another account.

    2. In the User name text box, type: hokies\ABC but replace ABC with your own Hokies ID which is the same as your PID.

    3. In the Password text box, type your Hokies ID (Exchange) password. If you have forgotten your password, follow the instructions at Forgot Hokies ID Password.

    4. Click OK.

      Enter your credentials and click OK.

  6. Wait while your account is automatically configured.

  7. When configuration is complete, click the Finish button.

  8. If prompted to restart Outlook, click OK.

    Click OK.
