Adding Videos to Modules
There are two ways to link videos in My Media to Canvas Modules:
- Embed the video in a Canvas Page, and link to the Page from the Module. See How do I add course content as module items? for instructions.
- Create a link to the video as a Module item.
To create a link to the video as a Module item:
- Go to Modules in your Canvas site.
- Go to an existing Module where you want to link the video, or create a new Module by clicking +Module.
- On the right side of the Module, click the plus sign to pull up the Add Item to <Module Name> popup.
- In the drop down menu, click on External Tool.
- Scroll down and click on Kaltura to pull up the Link Resource from External Tool menu.
- Find the video you want to link and click Select.
- You should be back on the Add Item to <Module Name> popup. Scroll down to Page Name and rename the page if you don't want it to be the video title.
- Click Add Item. The video is now linked in your Canvas Module.
Adding Videos to Pages
Embedded media can slow down page load times. If you want to embed more than a handful of videos in a page, consider building Playlists instead, then see Adding Playlists to Pages.
To embed a video in a page:
- Edit the Canvas Page. Click where you'd like to add the Kaltura video.
- In the Rich Content Editor click the Kaltura button.
- The Embed Kaltura Media window will open. Go to My Media.
- Search for the video: enter search terms, and use filter and sort functions.
- Click Select next to the video you want to embed. Or, click the down arrow to choose the size of the embedded video.
- If you're having trouble adding a video, make sure that it has the required video description. To do so, click Edit next to the video thumbnail or title in My Media and add a description.
- The video will appear in the page. Finish building the rest of your page.
- Click Save to save your progress or Save & Publish when you're ready to publish. Canvas will save the page and reload it in view mode.
Adding Playlists to Pages
- Create a playlist. See Using playlists to organize Media Galleries for more information.
- In your Canvas site, click on Course Gallery.
- On your Media Gallery page, click the Settings icon, then Edit.
- Click the Playlists tab next to Details.
- Locate the playlist you want to embed and click the Embed icon under the Actions column.
- The Share & Embed window will open. Choose the player and max embed size that you'd like, then click Copy Embed and Done.
- Click Pages in the Canvas course navigation menu.
- Open the page you want to embed the playlist in or add a new page. See How do I create a new page in a course? for more information.
- Click the HTML Editor icon.
- Paste the embed code into the text box, then click on the HTML Editor icon again.
- Your playlist should be embedded. Click Save or Save & Publish.
If you get an error instead of seeing your playlist, see Playlist Embed Error to fix your embed code.
