QuestionPro to Qualtrics Migration Guide

Introduction

The purpose of this knowledge base article is to support survey owners, administrators, and researchers in transitioning their survey instruments from QuestionPro to Qualtrics. As Virginia Tech moves to Qualtrics as its standard survey platform, existing QuestionPro surveys need to be recreated in a way that preserves their original intent, structure, and respondent experience as closely as possible.

This document walks through how common QuestionPro question types and features map to their closest Qualtrics equivalents, highlights areas where the two platforms differ, and offers practical guidance and reusable templates to help make the migration process smoother and more consistent across surveys.

The overall process is briefly shown using the process map below:

Five-phase flowchart of the QuestionPro to Qualtrics migration process: 1) back up the survey in QuestionPro, 2) clean and verify the exported data, 3) rebuild the survey in Qualtrics using manual entry, Simple TXT/DOCX import, or Advanced TXT/DOCX import, 4) import response data into Qualtrics, and 5) validate results before retiring the QuestionPro data.

Please have a look at the table of content below for detailed step by step guide to facilitate the migration.
